Pick Me Up // Graphic Art Fair // 2012 // Friday

Last week I went to Pick Me Up Graphic Art Fair 2012, which is currently on in Somerset House. It was a very nice day out with a good reason to meet up with my two college friends: Alma and Lizzy. We have chosen Friday, as Lizzy and I wanted to attend Anthony Burrill‘s workshop, which was on that particular day.

The workshop was well organised and very quick, as all we had to do was: to stick few stickers on the pre-printed grey card, or stamp them with A.B. initials. Later all cards were signed by Anthony Burrill himself. That was pretty cool, as I never met him before, and he seems to be as down to earth guy. That’s the attitude in people I like!

One floor down, there was another Tougui paper toy workshop taking place, so we have decided to take part in that one too. In this workshop from the given template we had to build a little figure and customise it. That was a great fun and lot of stress too, as prit stick glue was left opened for far too long, and wasn’t doing it’s job, so 5 min workshop ended up as 30 min hard work: watching the joints, corners, and the aw, which was smearing with the glue and marker pens.

That was my first visit to Somerset House, and I was left excited and a bit disappointed. The fair itself was very good, have seen loads of nice work in there. The design of the exhibition signage (Anthony Burrill) – was brilliant too! Jolly, colourful and clear. My disappointment was brought by the light in the exhibition space, as it was too dark. In most of occasions the spot lights were reflecting on the glass of the framed work, and you barely could see anything. It was hard to identify boundaries between exhibits , and their stalls too, so for me it was a bit too chaotic.

Without noticing, we have spent 4 hours in there! That proofs that there was so much too see! Not mentioning, that we have met our college friend (birthday boy) Rob, who just came back from China (such a coincidence!), so this gave us some extra excitement, that we had to wash out with a drink and fish & chips at the Southbank.

Here are some shots from our day in Somerset House. By the way, I forgot to mention, that we have came up with conclusion, that this year foxes are high in fashion, as there we so many of them. Starting from the costumes, wallpaper, ending with tiny postcards. Our conversation was overheard by one girl, who has told us, that she has even started to photograph all foxes exhibited in Pick Me Up. That proofs that you can make yourself busy anywherer you are!

++++

Praeita savaite aplankiau Pick Me Up grafikinio meno muge, kuri siuo metu vyksta Somerset House. Apsilankymo diena, mes pasirinkome penktadieni , nes butent ta diena vyko Anthony Burrill workshop’as, o Lizzy ir as labai norejome jame sudalyvaut. Siame workshop’e mes turejome klijuoti lipdukus, ant atspausdinto piko kartono, arba kartona zymeti A.B. inicialais, kurie buvo guminio antspaudo pavidale. Veliau atvirutes buvo pasirasytos pacio autoriaus Anthony Burrill, kuris pasirode labai paprastu zmogumi, o sita vertybe zmonese as labai vertinu!

Vienu aukstu zemiau, vyko kitas Tougui workshop’as, kuriame mes taipogi sudalyvavome. Sitame uzsiemime, is jau atspausdintu sablonu, turejome surinkti figurele ir ja apipavidalinti.

O nukreiptos sviesos, atsispindincios ant iremintu darbo stiklo, paverte darbus sunkiai iziurimais.

Sioje parodoje mes praleidome net 4 valanas! Oi, kaip as megstu tokius netycinius susitikimus. Tas susitikimas mus puikiai nuteike, ir paleide Rob’a, po parodos visos nukeliavome i kita upes puse, kur isgereme po taure ir suvalgeme fish&chips.

Noriu su jumis pasidalinti keliomis to dienos uzfiksuotomis akimirkomis.
